2024 Summary

It’s been a productive and eventful 2024 for the team as we continue our steady work to restore the aircraft to its former glory. Over the spring and summer, we addressed the repair of the platform handrails and removed the cockpit instrument fairings in preparation for upcoming repairs. With every step we are getting closer to returning the aircraft to its intended condition.

During the summer, we relocated the workshop, which temporarily paused work on the aircraft. With the move now complete, we’ve resumed tackling a range of long-postponed tasks. One of the first jobs was removing the nose wheel door strut, which has since undergone rust treatment and repainting. We’re delighted with the results, as the strut has been reattached and looks as good as new.

At the same time, we’ve made significant progress on other key components. The shimmy damper and centring unit for the nose wheel were removed, cleaned, and treated for rust. Early results are promising, with the shimmy damper already showing substantial improvement. After completing the stripping of the shimmy damper and associated parts, the components are now ready for final fettling before moving on to the priming stage.

As the colder months arrived, we placed the aircraft under its winter cover and shifted our focus to workshop-based tasks. This includes repairing items removed during the summer and preparing for what we expect to be a busy and productive 2025. Our efforts will continue to focus on careful restoration and maintenance, ensuring every component is returned to its best possible condition. The team has also taken on some additional smaller tasks, balancing detailed restoration work with efficient planning for the year ahead.

As the year winds down, the team is taking a well-earned break to recharge and reflect on the progress made. With the groundwork laid and the workshop fully operational, we’re looking forward to diving into 2025 with renewed energy. Our plans include tackling new projects and continuing the restoration with determination.

We would like to take the time to thank Skegness Water Leisure Park for their continued support and everyone who visited us in 2024. We look forward to seeing you again in 2025.
